What happened to the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny LEGO sets?

LEGO Indiana Jones made its triumphant return earlier this year – but could its time in the sun already be over?

Indy’s return to the world of LEGO bricks hasn’t been an easy one by any means. There was the controversial cancellation of 77014 Temple of Doom and the consistent stock issues on release. Now, Indy’s return to the big screen is shaping up to be similarly difficult.

Since the film screened at Cannes on May 18, early reviews for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny have been slowly coming in – and the reactions haven’t been positive. The film currently sits at 51% on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning 49% of critics reviewing the film gave it a negative score. A large portion of the 51% of positive reviews are middling at best, too – with an average score of around 3 out of 5.

You may not remember, since the rumours first popped up all the way back in July of last year, but the initial reports of the return of LEGO Indiana Jones listed eight sets. We now know that four of those sets were based on the three original movies, and one of those four was cancelled. That leaves the other four, initially rumoured to release this summer, unaccounted for.

The four unannounced Indy sets were rumoured to be based on Dial of Destiny – but how likely is that at this point? Most summer 2023 LEGO sets have been revealed by now, and there’s been no word on Indiana Jones – not even a set description or an instructions page leak to be heard of. With the tumultuous release of the other Indiana Jones sets and the middling reception to the new film, it’s possible that these sets have been cancelled altogether.

It’s possible that these sets could be slated for an August or September release and their images are just around the corner, but it’s looking less and less likely as time goes on. It would be a shame to see LEGO Indiana Jones disappear again after just one wave, especially since the sets were so good. If anything changes, we’ll be sure to let you know.
