Don’t forget – you could design the next LEGO Ideas space set

Time is running short to enter LEGO Ideas’ cosmic contest that will see two winners given the chance to design the next space set for the theme.

The most recent LEGO Ideas challenge offering the chance to be a fan designer for an official model ends its entry intake period on February 21. Those who have to submit their entries may want to be extra quick in case you need to resubmit your model after making some changes.

This challenge invites users to depict a vehicle or base to explore the cosmos, labelling their entries accordingly. One of each will then be picked to become a future LEGO Insiders reward and an official LEGO Ideas model. This will come after an expert review and crowd vote, giving you a chance to have your say.

At the time of writing, there are over 400 entries into the challenge so far but there can only be two grand prize winners who will see their entry become an official set. As well as this, they’ll win 10 copies of their finished set – just like regular LEGO Ideas fan designers – and five space-themed LEGO sets (10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery21340 Tales of the Space Age, 31152 Astronaut42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance and 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover.

The runners-up will be taking a smaller prize package home consisting of 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover and 21340 Tales of the Space Age. The most important rule in this contest is that nothing can be based on any intellectual property. There are some Classic Space projects in the challenge though so builds within that theme appear to be fine.

As well as this contest, the LEGO BrickLink Designer Program Series 4 has just ended its crowd vote but you can still pre-order the Series 1 sets (though only two remain). You’ve got a few more days to enter the challenge by heading to the LEGO Ideas website.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
