Every LEGO Ideas space set ever released – April 2023

The latest LEGO Ideas set – 21340 Tales of the Space Age – is the latest in an ever-growing collection of space-based models in the theme.

Space is a popular topic in LEGO Ideas with about 18% of all currently released LEGO Ideas sets featuring a focus on space. That includes references to space, space exploration and scientific models.

While we wait for 21340 Tales of the Space Age to launch, here’s your guide to every LEGO Ideas space set released so far.

10 – 21101 Hayabusa

Pieces: 369 Price: £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99 Year: 2012

As the second LEGO Ideas, then CUUSOO, model to launch, 21101 Hayabusa costs just as much as 21340 Tales of the Space Age with around half the pieces – not adjusted for inflation. The build depicts the titular Japanese spacecraft that collected asteroid samples.

9 – 21104 NASA Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover

Pieces: 295 Price: £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99 Year: 2014

Also based on a real mission, 21104 NASA Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover was also part of the theme back when LEGO Ideas was still CUUSOO.

8 – 21109 Exo Suit

Pieces: 321 Price: £29.99 / $34.99 / €34.99 Year: 2014

Inspired by Classic Space, 21109 Exo Suit is one of the most detailed LEGO Ideas sets with an intricate build using plenty of small parts, though remaining under £30.

7 – 21110 Research Institute

Pieces: 165 Price: £15.99 / $19.99 / €19.99 Year: 2014

21110 Research Institute is one of the smallest LEGO Ideas sets ever made and one of the least expensive too. However, only one-third of the build is dedicated to space with a constellation display and telescope.

6 – 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V

Pieces: 1,969 Price: £109.99 / $119.99 / €119.99 Year: 2017

Eventually rereleased as 92176 NASA Apollo Saturn V, 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V is one of the biggest LEGO Ideas space sets ever made with several pieces matching the year of the manned moon landing.

5 – 21312 Women of NASA

Pieces: 231 Price: £19.99 / $24.99 / €24.99 Year: 2017

21312 Women of NASA features minifigures and dioramas for three iconic women from NASA’s history, also coming in as one of the smaller LEGO Ideas sets ever designed.

4 – 40335 Space Rocket Ride

Pieces: 154 Price: GWP Year: 2019

The first of two LEGO Ideas space gifts is 40335 Space Rocket Ride from 2019. However, this is less linked to space than other models as it only recreates a ride resembling a colourful spaceship.

3 – 21321 International Space Station

Pieces: 864 Price: £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99 Year: 2020

Another NASA LEGO Ideas set, 21321 Internation Space Station presents a small-scale depiction of the station orbiting around the Earth. Don’t expect a life-sized recreation anytime soon.

2 – 40533 Cosmic Cardboard Adventures

Pieces: 203 Price: GWP Year: 2022

Also referencing space travel through the eyes of a child, the other LEGO Ideas space GWP includes a homage to Classis Space too.

1 – 21340 Tales of the Space Age

Pieces: 688 Price: £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99 Year: 2023

21340 Tales of the Space Age is the latest LEGO Ideas set and the 10th inspired by space. It takes inspiration from retro posters in a range of brick-built postcards that you can customise and hang on a wall.
