February 2021 LEGO Buyer’s Guide – NINJAGO City Gardens, Medieval Blacksmith and Porsche 911

Not a month goes by these days without a treasure trove of brand new LEGO sets to dig into, so learn what to look out for in February 2021 with our LEGO Buyer’s Guide.

Ideas, NINJAGO and the theme formerly known as Creator Expert (now 18+) are all grabbing headlines with new releases in February – some on early VIP access, and some widely available to all.

If you haven’t signed up to the LEGO Group’s VIP program yet, though, you definitely should: it’s absolutely free, and you’ll be able to rack up loyalty points to spend on freebies including discount vouchers and collectible coins.

There are also a good mix of gifts-with-purchase to boost your LEGO.com orders this month – and while LEGO Stores are currently closed in the UK, online stock levels appear to be returning to normal following the Black Friday and Christmas rush, so there’s plenty to choose from. Read on for our picks of all the new gear.

Lunar celebrations

40417 Year of the Ox

Theme: LEGO Seasonal Price: Free with £85 / $85 order Available: Now

This year’s seasonal freebie celebrates the Chinese Year of the Ox. You’ll be able to snag the brick-built creature, which is the eighth in the series (and the seventh in this style), with any order above £85 / $85 / €85. It’s not the only gift-with-purchase available this month, though: a £40 / $40 / €40 order will also net you 30411 Chocolate Box & Flower.

Both of those offers will stack until February 14 or while stocks last. 30539 Lloyd’s Quad Bike will then be free with NINJAGO purchases of £40 / $40 / €40 until from February 15 through the end of the month, but only in LEGO Stores, so you might have trouble grabbing it in the UK. Fingers crossed it also turns up at LEGO.com, or reappears later in the year.

The Garden of Eden NINJAGO City

71741 NINJAGO City Gardens

Theme: LEGO NINJAGO Price: £274.99 / $299.99 / €299.99 Pieces: 5,685 Available: Back order

Just when you thought your LEGO NINJAGO modular building collection was complete, the LEGO Group surprises us all with 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens. This latest expansion to 70620 NINJAGO City and 70657 NINJAGO City Docks isn’t based on The LEGO NINJAGO Movie, however, but instead celebrates 10 years of the animated TV series.

The enormous 5,685-piece set has been available to VIP members since January 14, and is now available to everyone. As you might have expected, it’s already on back order in the UK, but you can still place your order – and snag both 40417 Year of the Ox and 30411 Chocolate Box & Flower in the process.

Back to black(smith)

21325 Medieval Blacksmith

Theme: LEGO Ideas Price: £134.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 Pieces: 2,164 Available: Now

The latest LEGO Ideas set casts its eye back to a time when LEGO castles adorned toy store shelves – and brings that classic theme right into the modern day. Check out our in-depth review of the set here, then head to LEGO.com and place your order. Trust us: you won’t regret it.

Start your engines

10295 Porsche 911

Theme: 18+ Price: £119.99 / $149.99 / €129.99 Pieces: 1,458 Available: February 16

Would you rather have a Porsche 911 Turbo, or a Porsche 911 Targa? If you pick up 10295 Porsche 911, you can technically have both. You’ll need two copies to build them side-by-side, but the option to switch between either is still fantastic.

The latest 18+ vehicle goes on sale to VIP members on February 16 ahead of its wider March 1 release, so make sure you’re signed up to the VIP program. You’ll even bag a cool Porsche owners’ pack for being an early adopter…

A pirate’s booty

LEGO Pirates Collectible Coin

Theme: VIP Rewards Price: 1,150 points Available: Now

The latest LEGO VIP Collectible Coin is now available to redeem at the VIP Rewards Centre, while stocks last. You’ll need to place a LEGO.com order to use your redemption code, so it’s probably worth bundling in with any of the above sets (or anything else that takes your fancy) to save on shipping costs.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
