Five exciting features in the 2023 LEGO sets

We’ve now got a good idea of what’s launching for many LEGO themes in 2023, offering a look at what interesting features await in the year to come.

Now that most LEGO themes have had their upcoming product ranges revealed, including Marvel, City, NINJAGO, Monkie Kid and more, we also know of a few unique and uncommon functions that will feature in these builds.

You can take a look at every upcoming LEGO City set by clicking on the links above or by heading to our home page to find more of our reports, but otherwise here are five exciting features in the 2023 LEGO sets.

5 – An animated game

LEGO City has plenty of innovations in 2023 through usual lines including Police as well as additional animals including otters in 60394 ATV and Otter Habitat. However, there are few LEGO City 2023 sets as unique as 60388 Gaming Tournament Truck.

In this upcoming model, you’ll find a function that allows you to animate the two characters on the giant screen, clashing the fighters together as their health bars fluctuate above. It’s an interesting feature in an already innovative model and you can pick it up for £39.99 / $39.99 / €44.99 on January 1, 2023.

4 – Combining sets

LEGO Monkie Kid has another assortment of jets and mechs coming in 2023 with both Mei and Monkie Kid getting 80041 Mei’s Dragon Jet and 80040 Monkie Kid’s Combi Mech respectively. However, the back of the box for each model reveals that these builds can combine to augment the mech with flying capabilities.

It appears that 80041 Mei’s Dragon Jet unfolds to wrap around 80040 Monkie Kid’s Combi Mech, with the latter remaining unchanged at its core. Both are launching on January 1, 2023, for £17.99 / $19.99 / €19.99

3 – The rising Warden

LEGO Minecraft is heading into the deep dark in 2023 and while the presence of Shulkers presents an interesting opportunity for new features, it’s the main function of 21246 The Deep Dark Battle that may be the most interesting thanks to its accuracy to the game.

As part of the most recent Minecraft update, the Warden was introduced as a new challenging enemy to avoid in the Deep Dark underground area. It appears when you make too much noise near a Sculk Shrieker, slowly rising out of the ground and marching towards wherever it detects noise. To recreate this, a knob can be turned to slowly raise the warden from behind a set of ruins, matching how it spawns in Minecraft. 21246 The Deep Dark Battle will be available starting on January 1 for £59.99 / $64.99 / €64.99.

2 – A familiar obstacle course

Looking similar to the above-water obstacle courses seen on game shows, 60372 Police Training Academy includes an especially interactive feature for minifigures with spinning, swinging and falling builds for training police officers to make their way across.

This segment pairs well with the rest of the obstacles in 60372 Police Training Academy and should be fun to move minifigures around when the set launches on January 1 for £79.99 / $99.99 / €89.99.

1 – Alternate Quinjet designations

Following 76193 The Guardians’ Ship is 76248 The Avengers Quinjet as the second display-designed LEGO Marvel vehicle based on the first Avengers movie, as evidenced by the minifigure selection.

However, you don’t have to display this ~Quinjet recreation as an Avengers vehicle as two sticker sheets are included with a set of Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. designs to allow you to customise who operates your Quinjet. 76248 The Avengers Quinjet is launching on January 1, 2023, for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99.
