Four of the scariest LEGO themes for Halloween
There’s not long left for the spookiest season in 2022 so let’s look back at the scariest LEGO themes in time for Halloween.
With Halloween being a popular holiday for children to trick or treat around their neighbourhood or a time to sit back and watch seasonal movies with friends or family at home, it’s no surprise that the LEGO Group regularly celebrates Halloween with a Seasonal model every year.
However, there have been some years when the LEGO Group’s spooky ambitions have ventured further, so here are four of the scariest LEGO themes for Halloween:
4 – Hidden Side
The LEGO Group’s most recent year-round effort for a spooky theme was LEGO Hidden Side, attempting to combine physical sets with a digital in-app experience. Unfortunately, the app is soon being retired.
However, that’s not a sign of failure from the theme, which brought us some of the most interesting and innovative LEGO sets packed with references and features. Highlights include 70436 Phantom Fire Truck 3000 and 70437 Mystery Castle – both of which include one of the LEGO Group’s scariest characters – Nehmaar Reem.
3 – Scooby Doo
While not an original idea from the LEGO Group, LEGO Scooby-Doo undoubtedly fits the theme of Halloween, with the franchise regularly featuring classic monsters for Mystery Inc to investigate.
This theme only lasted one year and received five sets, though LEGO Scooby-Doo would go on to be featured in LEGO Dimensions too, offering another way to get a couple of the franchise’s iconic characters. Monsters featured in the sets include a zombie, mummy, headless horseman, swamp monster, a vampire and a ghost – all disguises of course.
2 – Fright Knights
The Fright Knights weren’t a full theme, instead being a part of the much larger Castle range. However, the faction had an intimidating colour scheme and more sets than LEGO Scooby-Doo, earning them a spot on this list, but as a group within a theme instead.
With a bat-based motif, a witch and a dark dragon, the Fright Knights are one of the scariest groups throughout LEGO Castle history, operating from 1997 to 1998 with nine sets. With other factions returning in 21325 Medieval Blacksmith and 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle, perhaps we’ll see the Fright Knights reappear in time too.
1 – Monster Fighters
Possibly one of the most iconic LEGO themes featuring monsters, ghosts and more, LEGO Monster Fighters was released in 2012 and in its time had a total of nine sets in one inter-connected story.
From still being featured at the annual Halloween event at LEGOLAND Florida Resort to 10228 Haunted House now being triple its original price on BrickLink, the legacy of LEGO Monster Fighters has made it an unforgettable theme, especially around Halloween.

It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
