How LEGO Ideas' team picked The X-Files set's minifigures

LEGO Ideas 21369 The X-Files includes an assortment of new minifigures, one of which was selected for being wholly unique to the series.

The new LEGO Ideas The X-Files model comes with eight exclusive minifigures, and picking which characters made the cut for the first LEGO The X-Files set was a challenge for the LEGO Ideas team.

Brick Fanatics had the opportunity to speak to some of the people behind the new build in a recent roundtable interview with other LEGO fan media, including one who asked why the Flukeman was picked as the build's monster of the week.

"Because Anna loves him," shared LEGO Ideas Creative Lead Jordan Scott. "We were looking at what monsters we should do for quite a while, and, I don't know, that one just seemed to resonate as quite an iconic one that we could have a lot of fun with and make into a really interesting minifigure."

"I think he's also very unique," added Graphic Designer Anna Godsk. "Sometimes in The X-Files they hunt the Jersey Devil, but then it turns out to be a dirty woman instead. So I think the Flukeman is really cool because he's not an urban legend or something. It's something that The X-Files made."

The Flukeman minifigure is certainly unique with one of the most unsettling head prints ever seen on a minifigure. You can find out more about the design of this minifigure by clicking here. The roundtable then turned to characters that didn't make the cut in the new LEGO Ideas set, including the Lone Gunmen.

"The set is based loosely on season three and season four," explained designer Chris McVeigh. "So we tried to populate it with characters around that kind of era in The X-Files. So Doggett and Reyes were kind of off the table just because it was too far forward in the timeline."

While there are no Lone Gunmen minifigures in 21369 The X-Files, there is at least an Easter egg for them, as we went over in a recent feature.
