How to combine not two, not three, but six LEGO Horse Knight Castles

A steady stream of alternate builds for LEGO 31168 Medieval Horse Knight Castle are trickling in over at Rebrickable – and the latest demonstrates how to combine six copies of the new set.

The successor to 31120 Medieval Castle (which inspired countless alternate builds from the castle community) has been on shelves for almost a month now, which is plenty of time for creators to get to grips with its part palette and cook up something new. The first remixed versions of one or two sets landed online at the beginning of the month, but the latest shoots for the stars by combining up to six copies.

The_Astral_J – who was also behind the book nook alternate build we featured earlier this month – has released instructions for the Horse Knight Citadel, which in its basic form uses pieces from three copies of 31168 Medieval Horse Knight Castle. But they also suggest combining multiple citadels for an even more sprawling fortress for those with the space and cash for that kind of project.

The regular citadel is comprised of 3,226 pieces, so only 500 or so pieces will sit unused from the three sets, and consists of eight modular sections that allow it to be displayed opened up, fully enclosed, or somewhere in between. When closed up, it measures over 43cm deep, 37cm wide and 37cm tall – and when opened out, it stretches to a formidable 96cm wide.

It’s also rocking a full interior complete with a bedroom, war room, throne room, stables and more. You can build it for yourself by acquiring the instructions from Rebrickable, which The_Astral_J is selling for $14. Three copies of 31168 Medieval Horse Knight Castle will set you back £329.97 / $389.97 / €359.97, or almost the same price as 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle.

Still, for anyone itching for another LEGO Castle fix on the size and scale of the 2022 90th-anniversary release, here’s one option using this summer’s new Creator 3-in-1 fortress. And because 31168 Medieval Horse Knight Castle is widely available (rather than exclusive to LEGO.com), you can take advantage of discounts too – Amazon UK has already marked it down to £101.99, for instance.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
