Jason Momoa confirms he will ‘always be Aquaman’ in DCU

As progress continues behind the scenes at DC Studios Jason Momoa has addressed casting rumours stating that he’ll always be Aquaman.

Towards the end of 2021, rumours of Jason Momoa being considered for the role of intergalactic bike-riding bounty hunter Lobo instead of Aquaman surfaced. In a recent interview with Variety, Momoa commented on this rumour and while there was no specific mention of Lobo, he confirmed that he will continue to portray Aquaman.

“I’ll always be Aquaman,” Momoa explains. “The rumours are… I’ll always be Aquaman. And then, there might be some other characters too. I can play other things too. I can be funny and savage and charming, once in a while.”

Funny, savage and charming could be referring to Lobo, but as the character is not named you should take the report with caution. Provided Momoa is planned to play multiple characters in the DCU, Lobo’s potential inclusion in future films could inspire a second minifigure following the comic depiction in 76096 Superman & Krypto Team-Up from 2018.

For now, the future of DC movies is partially unclear, though a few films are confirmed for 2023 including Shazam! Fury of the Gods on March 17, The Flash on June 16, Blue Beetle on August 18 and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on December 25.

The recent restructuring of DC Studios may have an effect on LEGO DC too as a lack of relevant content has been named as partially responsible for the minimal selection of sets in the theme in recent years.
