LEGO 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van shares feature with ’80s fire station

In the newly-released designer video for 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van, LEGO Designer Sven reveals the updated camper van shares an element with an unlikely set from the ’80s.

Sven states that one of the features the team knew it wanted to include from the beginning was the sliding doors of the T2 camper van, as it set apart from the real-life T1 that came before it. In the set, they function just like in the actual vehicle, moving to one size smoothly to reveal the detailed interior.

However, these functional doors are not a new element built for the set, although there are two that were made exclusively for 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van. In fact, these doors originally come from a town fire station build from the ’80s.

To make the doors suitable for the T2, they were flipped to the side. Once built, you can simply click them out of place underneath the van, then slide them aside for your minifigures to get on the road for their road-tripping holiday.
