LEGO Icons 10333 Barad-dûr may have revealed a future LOTR set

A potential future Middle-earth set may have been revealed in advance, thanks to a sneaky reference in LEGO Icons 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr.

This week saw the official reveal of 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr, with the massive LEGO Icons set clocking in at a whopping 5,471 pieces for £399.99 / $459.99 / €459.99. The Middle-earth model will be available exclusively for Insiders members on June 1, with a wider release from June 4.

Standing over 83cm tall, 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr includes 10 unique minifigures, is the ideal companion set for last year’s 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, features four-modular sections and is packed with whimsical moments, secrets and intriguing details.

In fact, one of the latter may well prove to be a subtle hint that another potential LEGO Lord of the Rings set might be arriving at some point in the future. Located in Sauron’s throne room is a small black knob that can be pulled, revealing a hidden Palantir orb and a map of Middle-earth.

Within the crystal ball can be seen a printed image of the white tree of Gondor, which may well suggest we’re getting our first glimpse of an upcoming Minas Tirith set. The Lord of the Rings location has yet to be recreated in LEGO form, so it might be possible that a model based on the capital of Gondor may well be on the way at some stage.

While that suggestion is purely speculation on our part, this wouldn’t be the first time that a future LEGO LOTR set has been teased in a previous model. 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell also included a map element within its structure, one that featured a stickered tile complete with images of Barad-dûr, Minas Tirith and Orthanc, with the latter location having appeared as a LEGO model in 2013.

10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr will be available for Insiders to purchase on June 1, while everyone else can pick up the set from June 4. The LEGO Icons build will be priced at £399.99 / $459.99 / €459.99 and orders placed from June 1 to 7 will also receive a free 40693 The Lord of the Rings: Fell Beast GWP, while stocks last.
