LEGO 21344 The Orient Express Train is a ‘dream come true’ for its designer

LEGO Ideas 21344 The Orient Express Train was a dream come true for its designer and we don’t mean the fan behind the original project.

The designer video for LEGO Ideas 21344 The Orient Express Train has just been released, featuring insight from the fan designer or the project that inspired the upcoming model, Thomas Lajon as well as LEGO Designer Ollie Gregory. Quotes from the video reveal that designing this build let one of them tick an item off their bucket list.

“I was really excited to see Thomas’ project on the LEGO Ideas platform,” shares Gregory in the video. “As a big train fan myself, I was rooting for this to reach 10,000 votes. Luckily it did and I was super excited to hear that we were actually going to choose it as the next LEGO Ideas set.

“For me, this was a bit of a dream come true really, it was on my bucket list of things I wanted to do as a LEGO designer – to make a steam train – so I’m incredibly fortunate to be able to do that.”

While we’re sure that fan designer Thomas Lajon is happy with the result of their LEGO Ideas submission, it’s interesting to hear that the official LEGO Designer is just as pleased with the project becoming a LEGO Ideas set, if not more.

LEGO Ideas 21344 The Orient Express can be yours starting from December 1, 2023, for £259.99 / $259.99 / €254.99. Our review is available to read here and the designer video has more insight to check out by clicking here.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
