LEGO Avengers: Doomsday community reactions as fans praise 'phenomenally done' Doctor Doom

Community reactions to the recently revealed LEGO Avengers: Doomsday sets are beginning to roll in, with fans largely thrilled by the line-up, particularly the minifigures.

The LEGO Group unveiled five upcoming sets inspired by Avengers: Doomsday this week, as Marvel Studios begins ramping up marketing for the film ahead of its December release.

As with previous Avengers movies, the film is receiving multiple LEGO sets, although fans can still hope for more spoiler-filled releases after the movie arrives. For now, the wider community reaction to this first and currently only confirmed wave of Avengers: Doomsday sets has been overwhelmingly positive.

“I need these,” said SteelersFanetic on Reddit. “The Sentinel looks so good; all these minifigures are so good.” They were far from the only fan praising the selection and execution of the minifigures.

“The Nightcrawler minifigure is worth buying [76348 Epic Battle: Avengers: Doomsday] alone,” said jcryin on Instagram, while sorin.vlad86 similarly wrote that the Doctor Doom minifigure in 76345 Doctor Doom Bust was ‘phenomenally done’.

While the minifigures have received plenty of praise, the sets themselves have attracted less attention. Few comments mention the Quinjet build included in 76347 Avengers: Doomsday Quinjet, while much of the discussion around 76352 Avengers: Doomsday New Avengers Tower has focused on its minifigure selection rather than the build itself.

“As a Thunderbolts fan, I love the minifigures,” wrote Admarrif on Instagram, but there was little discussion of the actual tower model.

The sets receiving the most praise for their builds appear to be 76348 Epic Battle: Avengers: Doomsday and 76345 Doctor Doom Bust.

“Probably the best Sentinel build by far,” commented valorbuilds, while j.hanna.username added: “The base is small but the Sentinel is incredible.”

Most criticism of the line-up has focused on one particular minifigure: The Thing. Eek132 posted on Reddit: “Why do they keep making The Thing a minifigure? He should be a big fig like in LEGO Marvel Superheroes.”

While some replies pointed out that The Thing is roughly the same height as other MCU characters, many fans agreed that his wider body shape makes a standard minifigure feel inaccurate.

“Oh man, I do not like how they did The Thing,” wrote DragonTigerSword. The Thing appeared in last year's 76316 Fantastic Four vs. Galactus Construction Figure as a minifigure, and has remained the same size in this wave despite the outcry, though he is now shirtless.

Fans also appear split on the value of the sets. KindlyFriendship4111 wrote: “Holy moly, good value in this economy?” while built.by.tae argued that “all look way too small for those prices.”

Overall, fans seem most excited about finally getting minifigures of long-requested characters, including Human Torch in his Flame On form, Nightcrawler (even if he is aged), and a brand-new Doctor Doom. However, the builds themselves have taken more of a back seat, with some models clearly more appreciated than others.

Based on these early reactions, the LEGO Avengers: Doomsday sets could prove popular when they launch on October 4.
