LEGO 40584 Birthday Diorama revealed, confirmed as gift-with-purchase

The LEGO Group has published a listing for 40584 Birthday Diorama on its online store, confirming it will be available as a gift-with-purchase.

Initially listed on the LEGO buildings instructions hub late last month, the 157-piece set includes a double-sided diorama for two different celebratory backdrops, along with a birthday cake, candles, gifts, balloons and two minifigures. There are also two banners – one with a cake, and one reading ‘happy birthday’ – that are likely to be stickered rather than printed.

There’s no word yet on when 40584 Birthday Diorama will be available as a gift-with-purchase, nor how much we’ll need to spend to get our hands on it. Its retail value is £10.99 in the UK, which suggests a slightly lower threshold than 40580 Blacktron Cruiser. That Classic Space redux is currently available with all orders above £170 / $190 / €190, and includes 199 more pieces than the birthday build.

As such, we’re probably looking at somewhere in the region of a £100 / $100 / €100 spend to acquire 40584 Birthday Diorama whenever it eventually launches at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores. The LEGO Group recommends giving it as ‘a gift to mark the birthday of a friend or loved one of any age from 6+’. Sorry, five-year-olds: you’ve got another year to wait before you can have a proper LEGO birthday.

If you want to keep the party vibes going, also still available at LEGO.com is 2020’s 40382 Birthday Set, which includes a buildable cake topped with a minifigure. There’s also a sticker sheet to add numbers to the two flags, which makes it a great way to celebrate anyone turning one year old to 99 years old. There goes the LEGO Group, excluding centennials again

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
