LEGO Black Friday Insiders reward has odd design decision

One of two upcoming Black Friday LEGO Insiders rewards makes an odd design decision, mistaking the name of an iconic set.

Two LEGO Black Friday Insiders rewards revealed earlier this week include 6550800 Barracuda Seas, depicting a miniature model of the unmistakable 6285 Black Seas Barracuda on a wood-style base with gold accents. It’s a good-looking build made up of 138 pieces and even comes with a printed round tile with the name of the ship, or at least most of it.

While the inspiration for 6550800 Barracuda Seas is undoubtedly 6285 Black Seas Barracuda, the name of the set and the printed tile only state ‘Barracuda Seas’.

The reason for this odd name change is unclear as the colour scheme and design of the small ship model are undoubtedly similar to the classic LEGO Pirates set. The set’s name not being the same as 6285 Black Seas Barracuda might make sense to avoid confusion in an internal database.

The printed tile’s different name isn’t as easy to explain. While it might be a case of there not being enough room on the piece for Black Seas Barracuda, the argument might be made that the font could have been made smaller to fit the full name. Even ignoring that though, switching around the order of the remaining words is perplexing too.

While the model looks good, the set name and printed tile are still somewhat confusing as we approach Black Friday and the release date for this LEGO Insiders reward. You can redeem 2,400 points for it starting on November 29 alongside another set that you can click here to see more of.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
