LEGO Brick Take Back program available in more US cities – but at a lower price

The LEGO Brick Take Back program has been running since last year in the US, but some changes have recently snuck in.

The last time we reported on the LEGO Group’s official brick recycling program, the Brick Take Back program, in September 2024, the program was live in three German cities and two American ones. While American shoppers needed to be able to hand their bricks in at locations in Denver and Atlanta, now the program has expanded in the US.

The concept remains the same: hand in eligible bricks (LEGO system ones in good quality) and you’ll get a LEGO gift card in return. While before you needed to be able to access specific locations in person, Brick Take Back now also operates via mail-in, so you can take part from anywhere in the US.

There’s no charge for shipping, which is good as the amount per pound of LEGO bricks has gone down. While last year it was $6 per lb, it’s now down to $4 per lb. It’s certainly not the highest rate per brick but it is easier than selling LEGO bricks or sets on the secondhand market, so long as they’re in good condition.

A handful of reddit users report that they have received emails advertising the Brick Take Back program, so it seems that the LEGO Group and its associated partner, Pentatonic Ltd, are pushing the initiative once again. It’s unclear exactly what happens to the bricks, with a vague promise to ‘learn even more about the best ways to keep bricks in play’. Despite the expansion, it’s still in the pilot stages, so it seems the LEGO Group is still working out kinks and gathering insights.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
