LEGO CON 2022 is getting a physical event in Australia

You might have assumed that LEGO CON 2022 was over, but the LEGO Group’s Australian division has other plans as a physical event is coming.

LEGO CON 2022’s digital presence might be finished, but for the first time ever, the event will be getting a physical showcase from July 9 to 10, 2022. Taking place at the Sydney Showgrounds, LEGO CON’s live event will feature an experience hosted by Ryan McNaught, Australian Lego Certified Professional and judge of LEGO MASTERS Australia.

Don’t expect any announcements from this live LEGO CON showcase as it will only feature existing models and interactive challenges as it is aimed mostly at kids. One highlight of the event will be the first appearance of the life-sized LEGO Formula 1 McLaren car model following it’s initial appearance at the Australian Grand Prix.

“We are very excited that Australia will host a physical LEGO CON event,” commented Troy Taylor, vice president and general manager of LEGO Australia & New Zealand.

“Last year, the LEGO CON experience was launched virtually for the first time and was extremely successful. With years of lockdowns and a lack of events in Australia, we wanted to bring the community together to celebrate the joy of creativity and imagination brought together by LEGO play. Kids attending the event will be immersed through the world of their favourite LEGO themes. It will be hours of fun and nostalgia for the family!”

While this live event won’t be as applicable as the main digital LEGO CON show, it does offer the possibility of more physical versions of LEGO CON in future. Nothing has currently been confirmed, but LEGO CON will be back for 2023 and the show recently received its first dedicated piece of merchandise.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
