LEGO Friends diversifies mini-dolls again in 41744 Sports Center

41744 Sports Center, a summer 2023 LEGO Friends set, includes another step towards the diversification of the LEGO portfolio

LEGO Friends has been one of the best themes for diversity in recent years, including mini-dolls with vitiligo, anxiety and Downs syndrome and one character in the new main cast even has a limb difference. It’s an important step in making sure everyone can identify with part of LEGO Friends’ reboot and 41744 Sports Center debuts another way for people to connect.

As noted by Professor Partha Kar on Twitter, Hanna has a glucose monitor printed on her arm and the official description confirms that one of the included accessories is a blood-sugar monitor.

This suggests that Hanna has diabetes, marking another way that LEGO Friends has become more diverse with its 2023 reboot.

41744 Sports Center is available now for £84.99 / $94.99 / €94.99 and it’s not just LEGO Friends that has become more diverse in recent years as minifigures in City and other themes have too. The printed hearing aid head element has become more common in models, recently featuring in 31139 Cozy House and 60372 Police Training Academy.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
