This is what LEGO Harry Potter 76429 Talking Sorting Hat sounds like

Thanks to a new social media post, we can finally listen to how LEGO Harry Potter 76429 Talking Sorting Hat actually sounds.

The LEGO Group pulled back the curtain this week on 76429 Talking Sorting Hat, with the magical set available for pre-order now and shipping from March 1, 2024. The 561-piece brick-built LEGO Harry Potter headgear will be priced at £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 and comes with an exclusive Harry Potter minifigure and an updated sound brick.

The latter enables the LEGO Harry Potter build’s most unique feature, as placing 76429 Talking Sorting Hat on your head or tipping the top of the hat will activate 1 of 31 randomised sounds. The new sound brick will not only place you in a Hogwarts House of its choosing, but also plays the catchy Sorting Hat Song now and again.

That all sounds very fan-pleasing in theory, but does the sound brick actually deliver what it promises? Well, now you can listen and decide for yourself as LEGO designer George Gilliatt has taken to social media to post a video of 76429 Talking Sorting Hat in action, roping in his colleagues to test out the LEGO Harry Potter set.

The sound brick certainly seems to do the trick and the voice of the hat may well be that of the late actor Leslie Phillips himself. In addition, other previously unrevealed features of 76429 Talking Sorting Hat can also be seen, such as the headgear’s eyebrows and mouth moving when its tip or a button underneath is pressed, and the option to place the Harry Potter minifigure inside the build.

You’ll be able to play around with all of the functionality of 76429 Talking Sorting Hat yourself when the LEGO Harry Potter set starts shipping from, March 1, 2024, priced at £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99.
