LEGO Harry Potter deals: Comparing discounts on both LEGO Hogwarts Castles
With attractive LEGO deals on both of them, you’ve got your pick of two iconic LEGO Harry Potter sets based on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
John Lewis has included both versions of LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts in its massive sale, meaning this is your chance to save no matter what size of castle you want to build. While with most LEGO sets, bigger tends to be better, there are pros and cons to both sets, so we thought we’d break down both 71043 Hogwarts Castle and 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds to help you make up your mind.
First up, we have the iconic 71043 Hogwarts Castle. At a whopping 6,020 pieces, this LEGO Harry Potter set captures every inch of the beloved school at a microfigure scale. It features scenes from throughout the franchise, from tiny scenes from the path to find the Philosopher’s Stone to a miniature Hungarian Horntail scaling the roof in Harry’s nail-biting trials from the Goblet of Fire.
71043 Hogwarts Castle would ordinarily set you back £409.99 but, as it’s the more expensive of the two models, the saving at John Lewis right now is even bigger. It’s reduced by £82 right now, a discount of 20% that means it will only set you back £327.99 – an attractive purchase for such a popular LEGO Harry Potter set.
When comparing 71043 Hogwarts Castle to its smaller sibling, the key difference, of course, is the size. 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds has roughly a third of the pieces – but don’t think that it skimps on detail. It includes some previous features, such as the Chamber of Secrets with an updated and far more detailed design, as well as including some fresh additions like the underwater Durmstrang boat and the flying Beuaxbatons carriage.
Despite this plentiful detail, the smaller size of 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds means that it’s already far cheaper than 71043 Hogwarts Castle at the best of times, with an RRP of £149.99. Plus, seeing as it only released this year, discounts on the set are relatively rare – except at John Lewis. At 20% off, you can pick it up for just £119.99, a saving of £30. While you technically save less than the deal on 71043 Hogwarts Castle, you’ll still spend roughly a third of what you would on the larger set.
Comparing both LEGO Hogwarts Castles
All in all, there are certainly pros and cons to both. There’s more room to dig into the details of rooms like the Great Hall in 71043 Hogwarts Castle, but some clever building techniques in 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds mean that there’s still enough space to see authentic details from the movies. Plus, you won’t need as much space to display a version of the iconic castle if you go for the newer model, ideal for LEGO Harry Potter collectors without a lot of shelf space.
