LEGO Ideas users pitched a Disney Pixar up set first

The official LEGO Disney Up set has now been revealed, but a model based on the movie was first proposed on LEGO Ideas, three times.

A retailer has showcased the first images of 43217 ‘Up’ House launching on April 1, 2022, ahead of the 100th anniversary of Disney

LEGO Ideas users bramant1 in 2019 and Yang Yang in 2020 both have previously pitched projects based on Up, with each getting to 10,000 supporters only to not be approved in their respective review rounds.

Those builds used a lot more elements than the official depiction’s total of 598, which is only enough for a small group of balloons and a façade of the house with two minifigures and Dug the dog. Despite their efforts, the LEGO Group has only seen fit to design and release an Up set in 2023 and not part of LEGO Ideas

However, there is a third LEGO Ideas project based on Up and it’s currently in review. Vaicko’s submission is part of the third 2022 review. With an official version coming to shelves soon, the chances of it being approved now seem slim, though the results have yet to be announced.

The results of the second 2022 LEGO Ideas review were revealed recently with two more models confirmed from it. We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for Vaicko’s project and whether or not it will join the likes of other fan-designed proposals for an Up set as a not approved proposal.
