Every LEGO Ideas set retiring in 2022 and beyond – August update

All but one of this year’s brand new LEGO Ideas sets are currently scheduled to hang around until 2024, while a total of five crowdsourced sets are still due to leave shelves this year.

Six brand new LEGO Ideas sets have arrived in 2022 so far, with one more rumoured to join them before the year’s out. At the moment, only 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog – Green Hill Zone is destined to retire by the end of 2023, with the rest – including the newly-revealed 21335 Motorised Lighthouse and 21336 The Office – all enjoying an extra year in production.

That’s good news for anyone with a growing backlog of Ideas sets to catch up on, as the theme becomes increasingly prolific – and continues to debut increasingly expensive sets. If you’re currently trying to figure out what to prioritise before it’s too late, there are five sets you’ll want to bump to the top of the list, including 21319 Central Perk and 21324 123 Sesame Street.

Also on the chopping block for 2022 is 92176 NASA Apollo Saturn V, which is actually the second time the rocket has retired: originally released in 2017, 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V hung around for two and a half years before retiring. It then returned in November 2020 for another launch, which by all accounts has been just as successful as the first (it’s managed another two years on shelves, after all).

Pending an unprecedented third release, though, this really will be your last chance to add the stunning space set to your collection. Check out a full breakdown of retiring dates for LEGO Ideas as of August 2022 below, but remember that these dates are subject to change.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

I’m surprised they’re ditching the Globe in 2024 but are apparently keeping the World Map.

Has there been any indication of how long the Lion Knights’ Castle set will be around? It’s going to be quite a while before I could fit it into my budget. These lists are very useful, thanks.
