LEGO explores new 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 elements in more detail
The LEGO Group’s designer video explores clever uses of LEGO elements, including repurposed existing parts and brand-new ones.
The recently-released designer video for LEGO Icons 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 sees LEGO Design Master Yoel Mazur discuss how the team designed a brand new wheel arch element specifically for the new model.
The new element is designed to better represent the Land Rover’s iconic wheel arches, which wouldn’t be possible with the LEGO Group’s existing round wheel arches.
“In LEGO, we have a lot of wheel arches but they’re pretty round,” explains Yoel. “This Land Rover vehicle has a different type of wheel arch, so we worked really closely with Land Rover to really get the angles and curves on this element, so that it would fit the LEGO system and also would look awesome on the model.
“We’re really excited to see how our fans are going to use this new wheel arch in their builds.”

While it’s always fun to see new elements appearing in sets, the LEGO Group is also known for its creative use of existing elements for new and unexpected purposes. 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 is no different, with eight black sausages used to make up the inner workings of one of the engines. Check out the embedded video below to see how sausages can help this brick-built car run.
10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 is available to buy now for £209.99 / $239.99 / €239.99. See it from every angle in our visual guide.
