LEGO MASTERS UK is finally returning to screens for Christmas

LEGO MASTERS is finally returning to the UK for a one-off Christmas special, with a new host and a new judge in tow.

The competitive building show – which is now an international hit, having been exported to countries including the US, Australia, Germany, Denmark and Poland – started life in the UK in 2017. A second season followed in 2018, but it’s been all quiet on the building front since then, even while those international series continue to enjoy multiple seasons.

Now, Blocks magazine has confirmed that the reality show will finally return to the UK later this year for a Christmas special hosted by comedian Nish Kumar. LEGO Vice President of Design Matthew Ashton is back on hosting duties, this time alongside LEGO MASTERS USA judge (and LEGO designer) Amy Corbett, who steps into the shoes of Fran Scott.

Three teams of contestants are taking part in the festive special, including comedians Alex Horne and Sophie Duker; singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her sons; and TV personality Scarlett Moffatt with her dad and sister. They’ll be joined by three LEGO experts in Kevin Hall, Emily Corl and Luke Reveruzzi, who are on hand to help the contestants out with building tips and tricks.

“Any challenge in the build room can be slightly chaotic, then celebrities who are not necessarily as experienced at building can heighten the chaos a little bit,” Ashton told Blocks. “But they all found it so much fun and threw themselves into the challenges – and in most cases, they succeeded.”

The LEGO MASTERS UK Christmas Special will air on Channel 4 on December 23.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
