LEGO The Muppets Collectible Minifigures rumoured for 2022

Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and the rest of the Muppets are rumoured to be joining the LEGO Collectible Minifigures line-up in 2022.

Instagram user lego_club_news reports that Jim Henson’s band of absurdist puppets will be the subject of the next licensed Collectible Minifigures series, as teased over the weekend by the LEGO Group’s Vice President of Design Matthew Ashton.

In an Instagram Q&A, Matthew stated that one of his dream licensed series was already becoming reality, and would hit shelves next year. That wording implied we’d be seeing a brand new property join the blind-bagged theme – rather than a second Marvel or third Harry Potter series, for instance – and The Muppets would certainly fit the bill.

While the colourful cast of characters haven’t had much exposure across cinema or primetime television over the past few years, they’ve recently made a limited comeback through Disney+ series Muppets Now, while Halloween special Muppets Haunted Mansion is due to air later this year.

There’s not much else to go on at the moment, including the potential price, release date or character line-up, but based on recent series we’re expecting 12 different Muppets at £3.49 / $4.99 / €3.99 apiece. The first Collectible Minifigures launch next year is rumoured to be Series 22, which would position this series in either May or September based on this year’s calendar.

That’s if this rumour pans out at all, of course: for now, it should be treated with caution until confirmed otherwise by the LEGO Group. There are plenty of Collectible Minifigures to catch up on in the meantime, including 71029 Series 21, 71030 Looney Tunes and 71031 Marvel Studios.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
