LEGO One Piece could look to a Marvel minifigure for a key element

A key part required for an upcoming LEGO One Piece minifigure may have been borrowed from an existing LEGO Marvel character.

The LEGO Group and Netflix officially revealed initial details of the LEGO One Piece theme today. Based on the live-action version of Eiichiro Oda’s phenomenally successful and long-running manga series, the first wave of sets and minifigures inspired by scenes from the show will be arriving sometime in 2025.

What has also been confirmed is that the full Straw Hat Pirates gang will be represented, hopefully in minifigure form. That will include Monkey D. Luffy, the group’s ever-optimistic captain and big dreamer, as played in the Netflix series by Iñaki Godoy.

As fans are already aware, Luffy boasts the unique ability to stretch his body like rubber (similar to Plastic Man or Mr. Fantastic), which was gained when he ate the supernatural Gum-Gum Fruit. We therefore suspect that a minifigure of the character would also need to represent such a special power and, fortunately, that’s where an existing LEGO Marvel hero steps in.

76076 Captain America Jet Pursuit launched in 2017 and included a Ms. Marvel minifigure, one that boasted long rubber arms attached to her printed torso (plus additional oversized hand pieces). The limbs culminate in standard clawed LEGO hands, with what look to be the same element briefly glimpsed in a teaser video for LEGO One Piece.

Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time that LEGO themes has swapped and reused pieces in other sets and their inclusion in any potential LEGO One Piece builds has yet to be confirmed. However, that sure does look like a flesh-coloured version of Ms. Marvel’s arm in the video to us, alongside another potentially new piece, Monkey D. Luffy’s iconic straw hat.

We’ll be sure to bring you the latest news and developments regarding the upcoming LEGO One piece theme as soon as we have more information.
