LEGO Pokémon pre-orders open again in more regions

The flagship LEGO Pokémon set is available to pre-order again in more regions, but has seemingly sold out for a second time in the UK.

Pre-orders for 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise (and its corresponding gift-with-purchase) were snapped up worldwide in less than 24 hours of its reveal, totalling at least 50,000 copies sold despite its lofty price tag of £579.99 / $649.99 / €649.99. The LEGO Group has now re-opened pre-orders in the US and select European countries – but chances are they won’t last long.

The 6,838-piece set opened up for pre-orders again in the UK yesterday but has already reverted to ‘Coming soon’ status at LEGO.com, which means you’ll need to wait until February 27 to buy yours in the UK now (pending any further pre-order restocks). The caveat here of course is that the initial allocation of gifts-with-purchase is completely spoken for, so pre-orders now won’t qualify for 40892 Kanto Region Badge Collection.

The LEGO Group says that gift-with-purchase – which is available exclusively with 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise – will be available again at launch, but has not disclosed how many copies will be up for grabs. You’ll probably need to be first in line at your local LEGO Store (or on the button at midnight) on February 27 to have the best chance of getting one.

If you’re happy to forgo the GWP to make sure you get a copy of 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise as early as possible, you can pre-order now – sans freebie – in the US, Germany, Austria, Italy, Poland, Czechia, Greece, Switzerland, Hungary and certain other European countries by heading here.

The two other LEGO Pokémon launch wave sets, 72151 Eevee and 72152 Pikachu and Poké Ball, are still available to pre-order worldwide.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
