LEGO Speed Champions 2023 polybag revealed

The LEGO Group has revealed a first look at this year’s LEGO Speed Champions polybag in a video interview with the theme’s Design Lead, Chris Stamp.

Four more LEGO Speed Champions sets are on the way in March, each bringing a new eight-stud-wide car to the range (or in the case of 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM, two new cars). But also arriving alongside those will be a smaller, five-stud-wide version of the McLaren Solus GT, a car originally created for the 2017 video game Gran Turismo Sport.

It’s the theme’s first (and perhaps only) polybag for 2023, following in the tyre tracks of 2020’s 30342 Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO, 2021’s 30343 McLaren Elva and 2022’s 30434 Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro. LEGO Speed Champions Design Lead Chris Stamp debuted the first images of the set in a video interview with YouTuber Racing Brick.

The smaller McLaren Solus GT doesn’t yet have a confirmed product number or name, but eagle-eyed Speed Champions fans will notice that it differs slightly from its bigger sibling: while the car in 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM includes orange highlights to match the F1 LM, the miniature Solus GT swaps them out for yellow, matching the livery of the vehicle in Gran Turismo Sport.

There’s no word yet on how we’ll be able to get our hands on the five-wide car, but previous LEGO Speed Champions polybags have shown up at supermarkets such as Asda in the UK. Keep an eye on Brick Fanatics for updates on the set’s packaging, product number and name, and wider availability.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
