LEGO Star Wars Death Star designer reveals original sketch model

An early sketch model of 75419 Death Star has been shared by the LEGO Star Wars design team, revealing just how close it was to the final model.

LEGO Star Wars fans were able to tune into a special livestream event earlier today, with the theme’s design team on hand to discuss 75419 Death Star. The 9,023-piece set has been officially revealed and is packed with plenty of details, as well as an impressive line-up of 38 minifigures.

During the livestream, LEGO Star Wars Design Manager César Soares showed off an early concept drawing for the UCS build, which was itself based on an initial sketch model created by the team’s concept designer, Alexandre Boudon.

“This is the model that I built at the concept boost week,” said Alexandre, gesturing to the massive set behind him. “A lot of the stuff I build, I build it thinking about what I would have liked as a kid. For me, this is very important.

“I always think about the toys more than anything else. I always loved the cross sections of little bases, little secret area. I could notice the excitement of people passing by and saying, ‘Oh yeah, what’s this?’ So this encouraged me, every day, to come early in the morning, leaving very, very late at night. But it was worth it.”

That response is understandable when looking deeper into the 75419 Death Star sketch model, as the huge build contains more detail, floors, rooms and ships than the finished LEGO Star Wars UCS set.

As well as a miniature Millennium Falcon nestled in one of the battle station’s hangar bays, we can also see a TIE Fighter, similar to the GWP that will be available to Insiders who pick up 75419 Death Star, a larger trash compactor, a repair room and what appear to be a couple of bacta tanks for healing wounded Imperials.

What’s surprising is that this early version of the LEGO Star Wars UCS model also includes a dedicated room for a Hot Tub Stormtrooper to bath in, matching an Easter egg in the finished model and one of its seven exclusive minifigures.

75419 Death Star releases on October 1, 2025, for Insiders and for everyone else from October 4, priced at £899.99 in the UK, $999.99 in the US and €999.99 in Europe. The LEGO Star Wars set will be accompanied by 40771 TIE Fighter with Imperial Hangar Rack, a free LEGO Insiders GWP available with all purchases of the massive model (while stocks last).

In my opinion licensing aside for the Star Wars franchise this is completely overpriced for what it is. Let alone compared to the falcon this is no where thr quality for 40% more. No thanks.

Lego is in my opinion gone crazy with their overall pricetags not just the Star Wars line but all of their line’s and i fair for the upcoming Star Trek line, they took the fun of collecting for people with small wallets and drove them themselfs to cheap nockoff’s brick firms.

The set is too small for the price and the gift with purchase is abhorrent, they’re withholding a key feature.
