LEGO Star Wars fans spot disappointing absence in 25th anniversary sets

LEGO Star Wars is celebrating 25 years of the theme with a flurry of special release sets – but one missing feature from a few of the sets is leaving fans disappointed.

The newly-revealed wave of LEGO Star Wars sets coming in March 2024 include three midi-scale ships in 75375 Millennium Falcon, 75376 Tantive IV, and 75377 Invisible Hand, alongside a fresh brick-built version of everyone’s favourite droid in 75379 R2-D2 and a not-quite-diorama of 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV. The latter two also include anniversary minifigures of Darth Malak in 75379 R2-D2 and Fives in 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV. Neither has a direct association to the set that they appear in but are rather included as extras in honour of the 25th anniversary.

However, some LEGO Star Wars fans have noticed a lack of any minifigures in the first three sets. “We finally got the Invisible Hand and we don’t even get one minifigure, let alone Count Dooku,” commented one Instagram user, echoing the feelings of several other comments online.

Over on reddit, it was a similar story. Despite overwhelmingly positive praise for the ships themselves, many people couldn’t help but be disappointed at the lack of minifigures, with one fan writing: “Honestly, I feel like the only thing that would make the Midi series even better would be a single minifig related to each ship.”

What is perhaps most frustrating is that the stands that each ship sits on have plenty enough space for a minifigure to perch on, with the information plaque taking centre stage, the 25th anniversary fixed on the left, and an open gap on the other edge of the stand.

There are also some obvious inclusions that LEGO Star Wars fans would have loved to see, such as General Grievous in 75377 Invisible Hand (who hasn’t received a redesign since 2013), Captain Antilles (who we get in 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV in any case) or a special Princess Leia in 75376 Tantive IV, or quite literally any central Star Wars character for 75375 Millennium Falcon (because who hasn’t spent some time on the Falcon at this point).

It’s worth noting that there are still some rumoured LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary sets to come and the LEGO Group has stated on its LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary webpage that six special minifigures are on the way. Indeed, early rumours suggest that Infinities Darth Vader could appear in 75389 Dark Millennium Falcon, Young Leia un an unknown set only given the set number 75392 so far, and Cal Kestis in the rumoured 75394 Death Star Conference Room.

What’s more, outside of the 25th birthday celebrations, the lack of a minifigure keeps the trio of midi-scale ships in line with the style of the other recent midi-scale ship, 75356 Executor Super Star Destroyer. Nonetheless, at this early stage of the reveal for LEGO Star Wars 2024 sets, the absence of a minifigure in every set has clearly left some fans feeling let down.
