LEGO Star Wars May the 4th 2024 promos rumoured

The first details on this year’s LEGO Star Wars May the 4th promos have surfaced online, pointing to an Episode I anniversary set and a couple of non-LEGO freebies.

As is customary for May the 4th by now, the LEGO Group has reportedly come up with a couple of promotional items for 2024 that aren’t anchored to bricks. On the cards for this May are an R2-D2 adhesive patch and keychain, building on both previous freebies – such as a Beskar keychain and Return of the Jedi coin – and the astromech droid’s status as the logo for LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary sets.

That’s according to Instagram user itavixbrix, who claims (via brick_clicker) that these promotional goodies will be available with qualifying purchases from May 1. But just as in 2022 and 2023, when the Mandalorian keychain and Death Star coin debuted, those non-brick-based gifts probably aren’t going to be the main reason you’re shopping for Star Wars Day.

The same source reports that this year’s headline May the 4th gift-with-purchase will be 40686 Battle Droid Carrier, coming in at 262 pieces with somewhere between six and eight Battle Droid minifigures in the box. The LEGO Group has released a couple of Battle Droid Carriers over the years – most recently in 2015 – but this would be the first time we’ve received one as a gift-with-purchase.

It would also be a clever way for the LEGO Group to give us a tonne of minifigures in a May the 4th GWP without having to come up with any new prints or moulds. And, of course, it would tie into the other big event going on in 2024: the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace.

The piece count places it closer to 2001’s 7126 Battle Droid Carrier (at 133) than 2015’s 75086 Battle Droid Troop Carrier (at 565), and given that very first set contained seven Battle Droids – one pilot and six regular B1s – it feels safe to assume the rumoured GWP will be a homage to the classic Phantom Menace build rather than its successor.

That’s if it exists as suspected. We won’t know one way or the other until the LEGO Group officially reveals its May the 4th slate, so take these LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary rumours with a pinch of salt for now. In the meantime, check out the current view of the entire 2024 line-up as things stand in the table below.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
