Rumoured LEGO Star Wars UCS Death Star GWP needs a twist

The first rumour for the gift-with-purchase exclusive to the LEGO Star Wars UCS Death Star posits an oddly normal set that will need a major twist.

Packaged in with a recent rumour regarding a holiday LEGO Star Wars set for 2025 from Instagram user a.clay.brick is word of an exclusive gift-with-purchase that will come with the previously-rumoured $1,000 Death Star. Suffice to say, such an expensive set would need an impressive gift-with-purchase, but according to the source, it’s going to be a TIE Fighter.

40771 TIE Fighter is said to consist of 236 pieces and launch on the same day as the 9,021-element Death Star – October 1, 2025. With only the name and the piece count to go on, it’s a surprisingly standard subject matter for something that will reportedly be paired with the biggest and most expensive LEGO Star Wars set ever released.

Five colour-accurate and sizable LEGO TIE Fighter sets have been released so far, most of which have used far more than 236 pieces. It seems likely that the rumoured gift-with-purchase won’t be on the same scale as these previous LEGO Star Wars sets. Either way, it’s an iconic Star Wars ship that LEGO Star Wars fans are all but certain to already own, especially when they’re dedicated enough to drop $999.99 on a single set.

Offering a TIE Fighter for free with a Death Star set makes sense, but when that Death Star is as expensive as 75419 UCS Death Star is rumoured to be, then it would need some kind of twist to help it stand out from the other TIE Fighters in fans’ collections.

An exclusive minifigure would be a great way to go about this, and it’s rumoured that 40771 TIE Fighter will feature three minifigures. That just leaves the piece count to sort out compared to the many other LEGO TIE Fighters.

236 pieces is much less than most other recent LEGO TIE Fighters, but it’s about the correct amount for a TIE Fighter at the same scale as 75159 Death Star’s miniature, but minifigure-compatible TIE Advanced. This small ship in an otherwise huge Death Star set uses 154 pieces.

As well as three notable minifigures, a small TIE Fighter that has room for a minifigure would perfectly pay tribute to the original huge LEGO Death Star sets and their miniature ships. The rumour that this gift-with-purchase is to be a TIE Fighter rather than a TIE Advanced might even imply that a new version of the TIE Advanced is coming in 75419 UCS Death Star. Hopefully, there’s a hangar big enough for such a duo in the reported set.

While initial word of the 40771 TIE Fighter might seem unusual when paired exclusively with a $1,000 Death Star, it begins to make sense when you consider the tribute possibility and the claimed presence of three minifigures in the gift-with-purchase, increasing the chance of an exclusive character.

Take everything you’ve read here with plenty of caution for now until more details are revealed. Here’s everything confirmed and rumoured for LEGO Star Wars this year, all of which is to be taken with caution.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
