LEGO releases Star Wars-themed short for Father’s Day

The LEGO Group has created a heartwarming short film to celebrate Father’s Day, featuring one of the most iconic father-son relationships in the galaxy.

Father’s Day falls on June 18 and to celebrate the LEGO Group has released a short film telling the story of the Skywalker father-son duo – albeit with a happier ending. Picking up during the climactic showdown from Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, an animated Darth Vader minifigure Force-chokes Luke, after his son attempts to give him a wrapped present.

While struggling in the air, Luke uses the Force to gift his dad the present after all, revealing it to be a Star Wars-style mug with #1 Dad written on it.

Vader is overcome with emotion, looking at Luke and seeing all the memories. they could have shared together on Tatooine, from building C3PO together, learning how to fight with a lightsaber, and driving a landspeeder for the first time.

Coming back to the present, Vader is inspired by the connection with his son to protect him from Emperor Palpatine, throwing him over the edge of railing just like in the movie. However, unlike in the film, Vader doesn’t die from his battle with Palpatine, instead surviving to enjoy a drink with his son, with Luke kicking back with a carton of blue milk (of course).

It’s a heartwarming film to watch and we’ll happily sit here and believe Vader survived and Anakin got to return to have a relationship with his son. We’d be even happier if we could get our hands on one of those cool mugs that Vader has, but that sadly doesn’t seem to be on the cards just yet. Watch the movie in full via the embedded link below.
