LEGO Super Mario fans should take a closer look at LEGO Disney Wish sets

While there aren’t any LEGO Super Mario minifigures to speak of, a LEGO Disney set might have got us one step closer to one character from the franchise.

The LEGO Group recently revealed three LEGO Disney sets, all based around the upcoming movie, Wish. The film tells the story of Asha and her wish upon a fallen star. This star is also a character in Wish named (you’ll never guess) Star. The fallen star appears in all three sets attached to the film as a tiny yellow figure, roughly the same size as a minidoll’s head.

If a story featuring personified stars sounds familiar, you’re thinking along the same lines as us. In fact, another franchise that’s licensed as a LEGO theme also features star-like characters: Super Mario’s Luma. The Luma come in various different colours but the most common for their raindrop shape is yellow – just like Wish’s Star.

The similarities don’t stop there. Both the Luma and Star sport tiny quiffs on top of their heads, along with wide-eyed expressions and disproportionately tiny limbs. All in all, if you’re a LEGO Super Mario fan who wants some Luma to fill out a few of their sets, then look no further.

The only real difference between the two is that Star has a winking star for his right eye. Other than that, the shape, colour, and even origins of the two are incredibly similar. Even better, Star is featured in all three of the LEGO Disney Wish sets, with the cheapest being 43223 Asha and the Kingdom of Rosas at £18.99 / $19.99 / €20.99. All three, despite being minidoll sets, are pretty fun fantasy builds that have plenty of fun elements and attractive builds, aside from the handy inclusion of a Luma-like figure.

All three LEGO Disney Wish sets will be available to buy from October 1, ranging from £18.99 to £84.99.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
