LEGO Wicked’s reveal has delighted some and confused others

LEGO Wicked has been officially announced to be coming later this year, and the community seems equally delighted and confused at the teaser.

The LEGO Group has confirmed that a full theme based on the upcoming two-part musical Wicked is coming with four sets on October 1, 2024. This is fairly uncommon ground for the LEGO Group as their most notable experience with musicals previously is The LEGO Movie 2 and its many models, almost none of which explored the musical aspect of the movie.

To announce this news, a teaser was shared on social media with an iconic line from the musical, but no specific mention of Wicked throughout the short video. For those who recognised the quote, including eternalmix_ and Stew, the reaction was notably positive and at times ecstatic.

Others including michau_william are seemingly hoping to plan their purchases of the four sets soon, though they have yet to be revealed aside from the confirmation that they feature mini-dolls rather than minifigures.

The cryptic nature of the teaser caused some in the comments of the LEGO Group’s announcement post on X (formerly Twitter) to question what the colour scheme, background and text could be referring to with, not knowing of Wicked.

Both Mikle and realNumbersets proposed licenses that were guessed many times in the comments, but neither prediction is correct. Without prior knowledge of Wicked, the teaser doesn’t explicitly reveal a connection to the musical to be fair to these and the many other users in the comments.

Rest assured though, LEGO Wicked is exactly what the post is teasing and it’s coming on October 1 with four sets and mini-dolls based on the characters. A lengthy trailer was released last week ahead of the first part’s release on November 27, 2024. Part two is currently scheduled for November 26, 2025.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
