The LEGO Group is now confirmed to be among the exhibitors at Gamescom 2023, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re on the cusp of learning about the next LEGO video game.
The latest LEGO title to arrive on consoles was LEGO 2K Drive, and before that last year’s LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Save for rumblings of 2K’s football-themed game LEGO 2K Goooal!, though (and the odd rumour around what TT Games is up to), the slate from here on out is a blank canvas. That leaves the door open to an announcement or two at Gamescom, the gaming industry’s next major event later this month.
What’s more, the LEGO Group is now confirmed to be among the exhibitors at this year’s convention in Cologne, which kicks off on Tuesday, August 22 with its annual Opening Night Live show. More specifically, LEGO GmbH – the German arm of the company – will have booths in halls 6.1 and 10.2, at stands B050 and C055 respectively (just in case you’re planning to attend). And some corners of the community suspect this could directly signal the announcement of a new game.

Just how likely is that, though? Well, consider that the LEGO Group is making its own push into the video game space with its products, including recent launches like the Sonic the Hedgehog theme and last year’s 76989 Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck. Its booth at Gamescom could simply be a means to advertise and sell those sets to visitors and retail partners, just as it used last year’s event to promote the LEGO Super Mario theme.
Meanwhile, the two AAA developers the LEGO Group is currently known to be working with are TT Games and Visual Concepts, whose games are published by Warner Bros. and 2K Games respectively. Those companies would presumably be spearheading any announcements of their own titles (rather than the LEGO Group itself). 2K Games isn’t listed among the exhibitors, but Warner Bros. Entertainment does have a booth – so the company is in attendance to some degree.
The prospect of a new LEGO game announcement isn’t off the table altogether, then (and 2K Games could yet surprise us). But the presence of LEGO GmbH alone doesn’t necessarily guarantee that we’ll be seeing something new, either.
Gamescom 2023 runs from August 23 to 27. You’ll be able to stream the Opening Night Live show on YouTube at 7pm UK time on August 22.
