New LEGO Wolverine minifigure’s alternate face print revealed

The LEGO Group has shared fresh images of the new LEGO Marvel Collectible Minifigures going about their day to day lives, revealing Wolverine’s alternate face print and hairpiece.

One of 12 new characters pulled from past, present and future Disney+ MCU shows for 71039 Marvel Series 2, Wolverine’s minifigure is easily his most detailed to date, featuring dual-moulded arms and legs and full-body printing. His mask is borrowed straight from previous versions of the character – including in last year’s 76202 Wolverine Mech Armor – but we now know Logan has a newly-printed head piece, too.

That’s thanks to a cute series of images published to the LEGO Group’s Instagram page, showcasing the new cast of characters during their downtime. The first photo shows Wolverine with his mask off, carefully using his adamantium claws to trim Beast’s wild blue hair (while Mr. Knight looks on from a nearby bathtub). And it gives us our first look at the character’s new face print, along with the alternate hairpiece presumably included in the box.

This isn’t the same hairpiece used for previous versions of Wolverine – see 2012’s 6866 Wolverine’s Chopper Showdown and 2017’s 76073 Mighty Micros: Wolverine vs. Magneto – but a sleeker and less pointed version of the slicked-back locks. The superhero shared his original barnet with LEGO Studios’ vampire minifigure and the original Joker (in green), but that piece hasn’t been used since 2017, so is presumably retired.

The newer hairpiece has been in production since 2009, and has shown up in a total of 54 different sets (across 42 individual minifigures). It’s perhaps not so surprising to see it used here, but superhero fans striving for total accuracy may want to consider grabbing the original Wolverine hairpiece from BrickLink as a replacement. The good news is that it’s available for pennies right now – but if demand ticks up once 71039 Marvel Series 2 hits shelves, that could change.

71039 Marvel Series 2 launches September 1 for £3.49 / $4.99 / €3.49 per minifigure. This will be the first Collectible Minifigures series packaged in boxes rather than foil bags, as the LEGO Group continues its pursuit to make all its packaging environmentally friendly by 2025.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
