LEGO Yellow House model installed at Van Gogh Museum
The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam has revealed a striking new LEGO attraction – a large-scale recreation of the iconic Yellow House.
Back in March 2025, the LEGO Art team launched 31215 Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers, the second set based on the work of the Dutch master painter. The 2,615-piece model was accompanied by a make and take event, a specially-created LEGO podcast, designer signings and much more.
In addition, it was announced at the time that a brick-built LEGO installation would be going on display at the Van Gogh Museum in in Amsterdam from June through August, before being moved to the LEGO House Billund and LEGO World, Utrecht. Now that attraction has been fully revealed and it draws its inspiration from another of the artist’s many masterpieces.

The Yellow House was officially unveiled at an exclusive event at the Van Gogh Museum yesterday evening, with the large-scale installation telling the story behind Vincent’s famous sunflower paintings.
The continuing collaboration between the LEGO Group and the Van Gogh Museum consists of five rooms and was assembled from 182,109 bricks. The model takes visitors through Vincent’s artistic journey in Arles, from his first inspiration by the colourful gardens to his friendship with French painter and sculptor, Paul Gaugin.
“This installation represents a new highlight in our collaboration with the LEGO Group,” said Rob Groot, managing director, Van Gogh Museum. “It offers a unique way to experience the stories behind Van Gogh’s masterpieces and connects art with the creativity of LEGO bricks in a very accessible way.”

The immersive LEGO installation of the Yellow House honours Vincent van Gogh’s legacy through five different rooms that explore his art, relationships and creative journey while he lived in the building.
“Vincent wanted to get out of the busy city life he’d been leading,” explained René van Blerk, Curator of Education & Interpretation at The Van Gogh Museum. “He’d been thinking for months about going to the south of France where he hoped to find not only sunshine but also colour and light.
The Yellow House is the place where he rented rooms to use as a studio,” said René. “It’s the place where his famous sunflower paintings were created. Vincent makes several different versions of sunflowers in a vase, initially with the idea to decorate his studio in the Yellow House.”

The massive Yellow House model was designed following a period of close collaboration between the LEGO Group and the Van Gogh Museum, as Lubor Zelinka, Design Manager Specialist at LEGO Model Production related.
“Since the Yellow House no longer exists, and there’s little documentation for some of the rooms, these discussions were particularly helpful for the rooms where no paintings or other documentation exist,” said Libor. “The details there are based on other paintings recommended by the Van Gogh Museum – the chair there for example is modelled after the painting titled Paul Gauguin’s Armchair.”

Creating the large-scale LEGO model wasn’t without its own design challenges though, especially when it came to maintaining the artist’s unique style.
“I’d say the hardest thing was to stay true to the style of van Gogh, while keeping LEGO design DNA and working within the limits of the scale chosen,” said Lubor. “Even though the model is large, the individual rooms are in fact not that spacious.
For example, most of the characters’ heads are only seven bricks wide, so we needed to find the right stylisation and elements to capture their facial expressions. The heads and some other small details were built with many special elements for this reason, while the rest of the model is mostly brick-built to keep the unique LEGO brick look.”

The Yellow House is now a long-term addition to the Van Gogh Museum and can be admired up-close until September 28, 2025, before it moves on to the LEGO House Billund. In addition to the model, the Van Gogh Museum is also offering two special workshops this summer that build on the collaboration with the LEGO Group, with more details to follow.
31215 Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers can be purchased right now, priced at £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99, with the LEGO Art set qualifying for double LEGO Insiders and a free GWP, while stocks last.
