LEGO’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order strategy may be the best thing for it

Five years after the game’s launch, the first LEGO Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order minifigure is rumoured and this strange strategy may be for the best.

While rumours for more LEGO Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order content have surfaced, to get the full picture we need to look back to 2022. Three years following the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019, 75335 BD-1 was released as the LEGO Star Wars design team finally embraced the game. This would come less than a year before the arrival of the game’s sequel in April 2023.

75335 BD-1 includes a small figure of the droid, which serves as a companion to Cal Kestis in the game, though the protagonist is nowhere to be found in the set. Now, a rumour from Unibricks has it that later this year, 75394 Death Star Conference Room will include Cal Kestis as a special guest minifigure for the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars for $79.99.

Considering that 75335 BD-1 cost $99.99 before it retired, that’s an expensive package of models to get the game’s duo instead of them both being included in the series’ only official set. That said, this might be the best thing for LEGO Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order overall.

Depicting BD-1 as a buildable droid model undoubtedly makes sense and only including the droid as a figure in the model matches what the LEGO Group have done previously with BB-8, R2-D2 and more.

“BD-1 in particular is just perfectly suited to our series of brick-built droids, especially since we could build him at almost life-size, which is always an attractive prospect,” shared designer Madison O’Neill to Brickset. “Whenever there is something well-received by the community, including something relatively unexpected, we are always open to responding to fans’ wishes.”

Ultimately, 75335 BD-1 doesn’t include Cal Kestis and there’s no rumour that the reported 75394 Death Star Conference Room could include both Cal and BD-1 as the current rumour is that it’s just the former.

Cal Kestis doesn’t quite fit in the Death Star conference room, since the entirety of the series so far takes place before the Death Star was finished. While including him in a more relevant model, such as 75335 BD-1 would make more sense, not doing so has some potential benefits.

As a rumoured special guest in a relatively expensive set, there’s a chance that Cal Kestis could be a more premium minifigure with additional printing and other details, especially since this may be the only shot at a Cal Kestis minifigure. The 20th-anniversary LEGO Star Wars minifigures may not be the best example of this as they were based on the original designs that aren’t nearly as detailed as standard LEGO Star Wars minifigures available today.

While there could be some benefit to Cal Kestis being in a separate set, it’s still going to be a more expensive method of finishing the pair officially. Those willing to go to the secondary market though may be relieved to hear that the BD-1 minifigure separately is around £10.80 on BrickLink currently. We shall have to see whether or not the rumoured minifigure is of decent quality and whether or not it even exists as the story develops. There’s at least a chance that this strategy is the best thing possible though.

Remember that the latest batch of LEGO Star Wars rumours are still just that until officially confirmed and that you should take them with appropriate caution until otherwise stated. Here’s a reminder of what’s currently confirmed and rumoured for 2024.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
