The first casualties of 2023’s LEGO retirement schedule are already here, as multiple LEGO sets are beginning to sell out for good online.
It’s that time of year again, when the most difficult decision that faces all LEGO collectors rears its head once more: do you take the plunge on your wish list now, snapping up retiring sets while you still have the chance? Or do you hold out until Black Friday in the hope of better deals, while running the risk of sets selling out before we even reach the year’s biggest sales event?
The LEGO Group is happily making the choice a little easier this year, because it’s running a pre-Black Friday event of sorts this week, with double points, discounted sets and up to three free gifts-with-purchase up for grabs. That makes this the perfect time to grab any retiring sets from your wish list – but you’ll need to act fast, because many of the models leaving production in 2023 are already starting to sell out for good.
In the UK, for example, LEGO Star Wars sets including
75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama and 75336 Inquisitor Transport Scythe have both sold out in the US, too – as have 31206 The Rolling Stones, 42139 All-Terrain Vehicle and 42144 Material Handler. Many of these sets may still be available through third-party retailers (check out our LEGO deals page for the latest offers), but once their current supply runs out, your only hope will be the secondary market.
More pressing are those sets sold exclusively through LEGO.com, because you won’t even be able to turn to alternative retailers. The first major casualty in that department is 10276 Colosseum, which has only ever been available through LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores, and is now marked as ‘sold out’ online in the US. Your local LEGO Store may have stock, but there are no guarantees.
The 9,036-piece LEGO Icons set is still available in the UK, but presumably not for very long if it’s already disappeared stateside. If you snap it up today, you’ll earn £47.50 back in Insiders points (previously VIP points), 40562 Mystic Witch, 40597 Scary Pirate Island and 40608 Halloween Fun VIP Add-On Pack, which is a pretty good return for a single purchase. See the table below for the specifics around each of those offers.
| LEGO promo | Region | Qualifying spend | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double Insiders points | All regions | All products | October 10 to 15 |
| 40608 Halloween Fun VIP Add-On Pack | All regions | £45 / $50 / €50 | October 1 to 12 |
