Rumoured LEGO Technic summer 2024 set could feature rare function

More details for the rumoured LEGO Technic 42176 Porsche GT4 e-Performance posit that it could include one of the rarest functions in the theme.

LEGO Technic 42176 Porsche GT4 e-Performance was originally rumoured to be a remote-controlled set and according to a new report from Instagram user maxbautde, that’s still the case. Remote-controlled LEGO Technic sets aren’t uncommon, though they equally aren’t quite an annual occurrence.

The more interesting revelation from the new rumour is that 42176 Porsche GT4 e-Performance could feature working front and rear lights – almost the first for theme, but technically not quite the first.

There have only been two LEGO Technic sets to integrate lights previously. 8297 Off-Roader uses the retired Power Functions elements for front lights and 42127 The Batman – Batmobile features two separate light pieces placed at the front and rear of the vehicle.

These recreate the glow of the engine and the jet at the back of the vehicle, technically making them the first front and rear lights in a LEGO Technic vehicle. Rumours suggest that 42176 Porsche GT4 e-Performance is going to feature more accurate and focused lighting though as well as be rechargeable via USB, arguably improving on the technology featured in the Batman build either way.

42176 Porsche GT4 e-Performance is only a rumour for now, though there is a listing for 42176 including a new LEGO Technic hub on the official online store. Still, all unconfirmed information should be taken with appropriate caution until an announcement is made.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

The Technic Space Shuttle (8480) used flexible light guides to simulate the engines and that was 1996.
