Second Stargate project enters LEGO Ideas first 2023 review

Stargate is a popular franchise in the first 2023 LEGO Ideas review as the second Stargate project in one week has joined the current round.

Submitted again by Captain Mutant, The Stargate seems to be identical in appearance to the LEGO Ideas project from the same user that went unapproved in the third 2021 review phase. Changes include the addition of Easter eggs for the franchise in the form of extra accessories. Otherwise, the projects appear to be mostly the same but with structural improvements in the newer version.

This Stargate project is up against some especially fierce competition as there is another Stargate project in the first 2023 review from Starbrick_SG1. It seems unlikely that two separate Stargate projects would be approved in the same round.

One advantage to this is it may improve the chances of a LEGO Stargate set by demonstrating clear demand. However, it has yet to be seen which of the eight projects currently in the round will be chosen for an official LEGO Ideas entry, if any.

It may look the same, but the model’s been refined and improved, like a better designed MALP, the inclusion of two additional antagonists (a Prior and a Replicator), a new protagonist in the form of Vala, the option to either have Jack or Cameron, or Jonas or Daniel (thanks to double-sides heads, so as to not swell up the minifig number for such a small set), printed tiles for the gate and a tattoo for Teal’c, and perhaps most importantly, the gate has been made much sturdier while forgoing very rare parts, replacing them with some that are much more common 😉
All in a day’s work for someone who can never put a MOC down 😀
