Seven references in LEGO Ideas London Telephone Box that LEGO fans will love

As a theme, LEGO Ideas sets often include references to other popular sets and even designers themselves – and 21347 Red London Telephone Box is no different.

Inspired by fan designs and finished off by professional LEGO designers, a lot of thought goes into every single LEGO Ideas set that ends up on shelves. It’s perhaps no surprise then that there are fun little nods hidden in some of the finer details of many of the models, whether that’s references to source material or more meta references to parts of LEGO history.

With the recent reveal of LEGO Ideas 21347 Red London Telephone Box, there’s plenty to take in, from the colourful flowers to the glowing light brick. Read on for some of our favourite in-joke references that are also hidden throughout the 1,460-piece set.

LEGO Ideas loves a self-referential sticker

Kicking off with a general one, a sticker on the insider of 21347 Red London Telephone Box reads ‘Your Ideas Here’, a clear reference to the theme itself. LEGO Ideas welcomes submissions from fans, so long as the design gets at least 10,000 supporters from other members of the community. All 10K projects then go up for review, with a few selected by the LEGO Ideas team each round. While we don’t think the LEGO Group ever actually advertised on stickers inside real-life telephone boxes, it’s a fun little nod to include in the brick-built version.

Another old-school LEGO Ideas set plays a role

Also tucked into the interior of the box is a reference to 21327 Typewriter, another set from the LEGO Ideas theme. It even appears to include a faded version of the same sand-green colour. From the carriage to the various keys, the likeness is striking, even for such a tiny sticker.

More LEGO history comes from outside the theme

It’s not just LEGO Ideas sets that are worthy of referencing in 21347 Red London Telephone Box, however. Three more stickered references come from the LEGO Modular Buildings Collection, in the form of stickers referring to a jazzy event clearly referring to 10312 Jazz Club, and a help sticker with the numbers 10278 (the set number for 10278 Police Station and 10197 (Fire Brigade). Within the world of LEGO, these locations are clearly close by to this particular brick-built telephone box.

Trip to LEGOLAND anyone?

You can also visit LEGOLAND according to this poster on the inside of 21347 Red London Telephone Box, showcasing the flying flags of the LEGOLAND buildings and the gravity-defying rides that visitors to the park will know and love.

A LEGO hat for every occasion

This final easter egg is a less direct reference but the trio of hats included on this ‘ad’ are all real minifigure hats that you can find on one minifigure or another. Indeed, the fact that it’s greyscale means the hat on the bottom right bears a striking resemblance to what Film Noir Detective is sporting in the recently-released 71045 Series 25.

The Jazz reference is referring to 21334 Jazz Quartet, not the Jazz club. The trumpet in the picture is the same trumpet from the Jazz Quartet Ideas set.
