Six new LEGO March 2023 sets you shouldn’t miss

More than 40 new LEGO sets are now available to buy online and in-store, and we’ve picked out six you really shouldn’t pass up.

Struggling to sift through the dozens of new sets that landed on shelves on March 1? No worries: your old pals at Brick Fanatics have combed through all the shiny new stuff to highlight six sets that are worth your time, attention and – most importantly – LEGO budget. There’s a good mix of themes here too, so you’ll hopefully find at least one set to get your creative juices flowing.

From Speed Champions to Star Wars – and everything in between – here are six new LEGO sets you ought not to miss out on.

6 – 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM

Theme: Speed Champions Price: £39.99 / $34.99 / €44.99 Pieces: 581 Available: Now

This year’s only LEGO Speed Champions double-pack (so far) includes contrasting McLarens: a legendary classic in the F1 LM, and a futuristic concept car in the Solus GT. But while many double-packs in this theme fall victim to only having one truly desirable car, you’ll get a lot out of building both vehicles in 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM.

5 – 76420 Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake

Theme: Harry Potter Price: £39.99 / $44.99 / €44.99 Pieces: 349 Available: Now

If you’re looking to continue building out your LEGO Hogwarts display, you’ll want to aim for the also-new 76413 Hogwarts: Room of Requirement. And that Deathly Hallows set is a fine choice – but for something completely different, we’re leaning instead towards 76420 Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake. It’s a magical remake of a 2005 classic, and packs in both cool colours and must-have minifigures.

4 – 40619 EVE & WALL•E

Theme: Disney Price: £13.49 / $14.99 / €14.99 Pieces: 155 Available: Now

If there’s one pocket-money purchase Disney fans are going to be gunning for at the moment (at least until 71038 Disney 100 comes along in May), it’s 40619 EVE & WALL•E. This pair might just be the most adorable BrickHeadz we’ve seen in ages, and their diminutive nature means they won’t break the bank. Just remember to recycle that packaging…

3 – 42154 2022 Ford GT

Theme: Technic Price: £104.99 / $119.99 / €119.99 Pieces: 1,466 Available: Now

The biggest LEGO Technic set for 2023 so far is also its best (this year at least), recreating a stunning real-life car in a relatively rare colour for the complex theme. It might not be packed with functions, but there’s enough going on under the hood – including its impressive butterfly doors – for the price tag.

2 – 75350 Clone Commander Cody Helmet

Theme: Star Wars Price: £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99 Pieces: 766 Available: Now

You can’t really go wrong with any of the three new LEGO Star Wars helmets that arrived on March 1, but we’re singling out 75350 Clone Commander Cody Helmet as the best of the bunch. It just about eked past 75349 Captain Rex Helmet in our comparison of both Clone Wars characters, and offers a striking (and very different) set for the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection.

1 – 31136 Exotic Parrot

Theme: Creator 3-in-1 Price: £19.99 / $24.99 / €19.99 Pieces: 253 Available: Now

The LEGO Creator 3-in-1 theme continues to knock it out of the park as far as buildable animals are concerned, following up last year’s 31129 Majestic Tiger with the equally impressive – but eminently more affordable – 31136 Exotic Parrot. The £19.99 set rebuilds into a frog or a fish, both of which are fun, but that parrot is just leagues ahead.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
