Comparing Sonic the Hedgehog minifigures to LEGO Dimensions

LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets are coming, but we’ve seen its minifigures before as LEGO Dimensions may serve as future inspiration.

LEGO Dimensions debuted LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog before LEGO Ideas or the full theme coming later in 2023. However, the game included more characters than Sonic and Dr. Eggman, including a few that will make their minifigure debut in the four new sets

Later this year. Sonic, Amy, Tails and Dr. Eggman will receive new minifigures as part of the Sonic the Hedgehog theme. Their minifigures closely match their LEGO Dimensions counterparts. The biggest change is that Eggman has transitioned from big-fig to brick-built figure to minifigure. The doctor’s second physical depiction uses at least one new piece to capture his uniquely round body.

Amy and Tails appear to have a less-rounded and more-rounded face respectively but keep many of the details and overall proportions from LEGO Dimensions. Sonic is nearly the same, as seen in his debut LEGO Ideas minifigure.

The physical minifigures may have taken inspiration from the LEGO Dimensions designs, though the game included more than Eggman, Tails, Amy and Sonic with Shadow, Knuckles and Big also appearing alongside Super Sonic.

With more LEGO Sonic sets being possible, and one potentially teased in the theme’s announcement, it will be interesting to see if any other characters manage to transition beyond the game.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
