Star Wars fans call out LEGO over DREAMZzz minifigure

A minifigure from the recently-revealed LEGO DREAMZzz theme features an element that has LEGO Star Wars fans jealous.

For the past few years, Clone Troopers in LEGO Star Wars have done away with fabric waist capes (called kama in Star Wars lore) in favor of printing a suggestion of the cape directly on the minifigure’s legs. This change has become a common point of contention among the LEGO Star Wars fan community, with near-constant posts and comments on r/legostarwars bemoaning the switch.

Positive responses to the printed capes are few and far between, as evidenced by a post from user ID108949 that reads, “Am I the only one who’s completely fine with printed waist capes/kama? I’ve seen a lot of people complain about them being printed.” To which the community response, in over 100 comments, seems to be: “Yes. You are the only one.”

The reasoning behind the switch from cloth to printing is generally agreed to be a cost-saving move on the part of the LEGO Group. Naturally, then, when specialized cloth elements show up in other themes, Star Wars fans often feel cheated. The reveal of LEGO DREAMZzz is no exception, especially since one of the characters has a waist cape just like LEGO Clone Troopers used to have.

Instagram user mattysminifigures made a post highlighting this fact, which you can check out below:

When put right next to each other in a post like this, it does seem a little odd that the LEGO Group will go the extra mile on cloth elements for some characters and themes but not for others. Mostly, though, the post is good for a quick laugh at the absurdity of the whole situation. The post format seems to be a play on the classic meme post of ‘if a naked girl can get 1000 likes, how many can our troops get?’

Here’s hoping that LEGO minifigures across all themes continue to get specialized cloth pieces, and that one day LEGO Star Wars fans will be satisfied – however unlikely that sounds.
