LEGO Star Wars 75309 Republic Gunship designer video released

Following its release in August, the designer video for LEGO Star Wars 75309 Republic Gunship is taking us behind the scenes of the UCS build.

The accompanying designer video for the massive 75309 Republic Gunship has been uploaded to the LEGO Group’s YouTube channel with designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer on hand to give us the insight behind the latest in the Ultimate Collector’s Series of Star Wars creations.

One of the explained details is the positioning of the display stand, which shows the model as leaning forwards to simulate the way that the sci-fi vehicle takes off after dropping off a squad of clone troopers. Similarly, Hans demonstrates the play features whilst describing how such UCS sets wouldn’t usually feature any functions unless they are specifically part of the source material.

“A challenge with the model of this size, the way it’s designed is how to attach these wings I mean one wing is long and it somehow needs to be connected at a certain angle,” explained LEGO designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer. “So I checked how the smaller wings connected on the previous playset model we made and it turns out it’s an invalid technique and it needs to be adapted a little bit.”

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
