The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part drops to second place at UK box office

Fighting with my Family has taken the number one spot at the UK box office, pushing The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part down to second place.

Stephen Merchant’s new comedy about a family of wrestlers, Fighting with my Family, has taken the number one spot at the UK box office, with The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part dropping to second place. The new film took £2.09 million during its first few days on release.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part has held the number one spot in the UK since its release on February 8, taking £1.39 million during its fourth week on release. The film has taken a total of £15,828,621 in the UK so far. UK cinema takings in February were down 29% when compared to the same month a year ago, continuing a trend that began in January.

In a recent interview, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara recently commented on the film’s disappointing box office. “It didn’t do as well as tracking would’ve suggested, which was a little puzzling. The first movie was so fresh and so different. We need to continually rethink the experience, but the LEGO brand is incredibly strong. On the game side, it’s been an incredible franchise.”

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is in cinemas now.
