There are two more LEGO Star Wars May the 4th promos – but good luck getting them

There are at least two more LEGO Star Wars May the 4th gifts-with-purchase on the way, but you’re going to have to go out of your way to get your hands on them.

The LEGO Group unveiled its slate of freebies for this year’s May the 4th event yesterday, among which are a polybag, collectible coin and boxed set in the form of 30680 AAT, 5008818 Battle of Yavin and 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier respectively. But they aren’t the only limited-edition items the company has cooked up to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars theme.

European retailers Intertoys and JB Spielwaren have between them shown off a couple of unique collectible LEGO Star Wars items that are available right now with qualifying purchases. One of those is a metal keychain bearing the LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary logo, images of which have been floating around for a while and which many suspected would be available through LEGO.com and LEGO Stores.

Instead, shoppers heading for official channels will have to content themselves with the Battle of Yavin coin – while you’ll seemingly have to shop through a third-party retailer to complete your collection of LEGO Star Wars 2024 trinkets. German retailer JB Spielwaren is giving away the R2-D2-emblazoned keychain with orders above €150, while Dutch toy store Intertoys is handing it out with €50 spends.

JB Spielwaren has also procured a LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary notebook, again decorated with the corresponding logo, which it’s giving away with orders above €200. Exactly when or where these two freebies will be available in the UK or US has yet to be confirmed, but given their distribution on the continent there’s a good chance they’ll pop up through a third-party retailer.

That’s if they come to other countries at all: nothing is guaranteed right now. And while not everyone will be interested in more free gifts that aren’t actual LEGO bricks, there will definitely be some collectors out there who might feel like they’re missing out if they don’t have this keychain and notebook in their LEGO Star Wars May the 4th 2024 collection.

The LEGO Group has previously given away keychains as part of its own May the 4th offers, so it’s curious to see this one turn up outside of official channels. The silver lining is that both gifts might eventually be more widely available – 30680 AAT, 5008818 Battle of Yavin and 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier are only available from May 1 to 5 (or while stocks last), but the notebook and keychain can be found right now at Intertoys and JB Spielwaren.

Fingers crossed a wider release in the UK and US is on the cards soon – even if it does mean splitting your May the 4th purchases across multiple stores…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
