As part of the LEGO Group’s 90th Anniversary celebrations this year, fans of a certain age have recently been delighted with reveals of modern takes on a number of classic sets. This has included 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle and 10497 Galaxy Explorer, with the latter offering an updated version of the 1979 model, 497 Galaxy Explorer.

As well as being a fantastic build that truly tugs on the retro heartstrings, 10497 Galaxy Explorer actually offers even more nostalgic construction options than might appear at first sight. This week the LEGO Group released alternate building instructions for the set, which have been created by the model’s designers.

As well as the main spaceship, our latest YouTube and TikTok videos above show that it’s also possible to make updated versions of both 487 Space Cruiser or 918 Space Transport. Whichever vehicle you choose to construct, the set is guaranteed to whisk you back to a simpler time, when all a child needed for fun was a space-based LEGO set and their boundless imagination.
